How long does it take to build the website?

Once you upload your logos, images, text, etc. it typically takes between 2 to 4 weeks to complete most sites if there is good responsiveness by the client to our requests for information. You project sheet will detail how long we actually think your specific site will take to build.

We have done rush sites in under a week before (once in under 24 hours) but there are situations where it could take 3-4 months if we are building something more complex OR have to work through helping you create systems for product delivery.

Would you be willing to barter, trade, or swap for _____ ?

Fascination Design believes in paying people in real money for things of value. We expect to be paid as well as we expect to pay for services and products. 

Doing so also ensures projects are prioritized fairly and not put on the back burner for paying clients by either party. Trading services is far more complicated than trading products.

This doesn’t mean no one will barter with you but we probably won’t.

Why does facebook show my location wrong?

This is related to cell phone towers and your phone’s location services accuracy instead of facebook actually.

I’ve seen this happen around Lexington showing people as posting from “Catnip Hill.” There is in fact a cell tower located off of Catnip Hill Road in Nicholasville (city next to Lexington for those outside the area) but that tower provides that location information for people who are posting while on that cell tower’s network … even when they are in fact in Lexington. “Little Georgetown” is another mistaken location people in Lexington often get.

Basically to have a shot at getting this changed, you have to improve the accuracy of the phone’s location services in order to possibly get a more accurate location. Scroll down to “Improve GPS accuracy” on the following page and see if these instructions help (iOS 8):

This may or may not fix it. If it does end up helping now but then later you have a problem again, you may want to restart your phone. I’ve seen phones that haven’t been restarted in weeks hold onto old location information longer than they should.
If you’re posting from your computer then it has to do with location information being sent by your ISP (or your VPN) and I really don’t know any easy ways to correct it from that or the answer is going to be more specific to those services.

Are you marketing via product launch or by personal milestones?

Are you marketing via product launch or by personal milestones like a new job or even a broken refrigerator? There’s value in new products but you may grab people’s attention more when they are shopping based on a specific life event.

Yoast SEO with JetPack Publicize –
don’t forget to set the default meta description

The WordPress JetPack plugin allows you to publish blog posts to a variety of social media sites. As a designer I tend to customize my meta description per post but I had forgotten to set a default meta description for a client in the Yoast SEO plugin. This is not only an important setting for SEO reasons but also for how posts can show up when they go to facebook or anywhere else that uses the description meta data.

the importance of meta descriptions and facebookYou can see in the “old” post that facebook grabbed the first text it saw which was associated with the comment field without the default meta description.

In the new post, the default meta description had been changed out so that if the client didn’t create a custom meta description for the post, it would at least show the default which is nicer.

And as my client put it, with no default meta description, it looks like “my petticoats (are) showing!”
